Soul Asylum At Loeb Playhouse

Seeing Soul Asylum Live

I have vivid memories of listening to Grave Dancers Union in my first car as I drove to school. It was really cool to not only get to see Soul Asylum play Loeb Playhouse, but to get to photograph the show. I had never photographed in Loeb for an act before. In fact that last time that I was in here was probably to see Joe McNally speak years ago. This is a great venue that I would love to photograph more in. This building like many on campus was designed by Walter Scholer. Next week I will have a fun look at some of his work on campus and around the area.

Thinking Quick For Three Songs

One thing that I like about concert photography is that you have to think quick during your three songs. The three song limit can be limiting, but it can also help you focus and get what you need. I watched a few concerts before the show just to get to know how the band might behave. I wanted to know which way the lead singer favored. He really seemed to photograph well from one side of the stage so that is where I put myself. Once I got my required tight photos I started thinking of ways to show off the venue. This was my favorite of those photos. Later in the show they had the crowd lights on which would have been a much better photo, but my three songs were over. I really like that rush that comes during those three songs.

More Photos From The Night

This was a fun concert to cover and then watch. Below are a couple of bonus photos from the night.
