The Former Maple Lane Mall

This could be a long one. This mall has so many memories. Just to the left of the main entrance used to be the Baskin Robbins. To the right of the main entrance was Aladdin’s Castle. That arcade was the site of many birthday parties and fun summer days. Inside the mall I got my first pair of glasses when I was in third grade. Later that same store was a card shop where I would hunt for Ken Griffey Jr. cards in packs. That ’89 Fleer and ’89 Upper Deck gave us a thrill when we pulled it. You had the record shop that when I first went to it actually sold records. Over the years we preordered records, tapes, and then cd’s in that store. You had a book shop where I would hope that they would have the new Stephen King book when it came out. They often did. In the center gathering point of the mall was where I would have school concerts early in life. It is also where we would meet Santa. It is also where I met Minnie Minoso for the first time. Heck scenes from the movie Prancer were filmed here. This is such an iconic building. I wish that I had the foresight to photograph it before it was changed into a Dunham’s. They had left the signs up for quite some time. The iconic exterior of the building remains. As a kid I always thought that it looked like an Pizza Hut roof.

50 For 50

This is going to be a crazy theme. For the next fifty days I plan on posting a photo of a place that has some meaning to me. Last August I came up with a theme for a week showing some Purdue memories. At the end of this fifty days I will turn fifty. I thought that it would be fun to take a look back at some places that bring back memories for me. This can’t be an all inclusive list, but one that I hope will be fun for you as well as me.
