Starting Off Strong

Photo of the Day

Yesterday I shot the women’s basketball opener here against Ball State. The Boilers as a team did not start off very strong, but senior KK Houser decided to put the team on her shoulders. She scored 15 straight points for the Boilers to carry them into the second half. Her spark enabled the team to pull out a six point win. I really enjoyed watching the team play yesterday, and you can see the potential for a very good season ahead. To succeed you really need upperclassmen leading the way, and the Boilers have a good one here.

Technical Data

The only real processing here was a small crop. The beauty about the 5D Mark III is that I have three custom settings on the camera. I have one set up for the light in Mackey so I really don’t even need to touch the photo in Lightroom. I really love the camera, and now have a sweet setup thanks to the suggestion of another photographer.

Bonus Pictures

As I did yesterday I thought that I would post a few more pictures that I liked from the game. Basketball is a fickle game to photograph. The person next to you might have a completely different looking shot based on just a couple of feet difference in perspective. Luckily some of the action came right to me allowing me to make a nice picture. Here are some of them that I liked from the game.

  1. Nice shots, I took some volleyball ones on the weekend and didn’t get nearly as much clarity and I was shooting at 4000 iso on a much slower shutter speed, maybe I need to go from 4.5 to 2.8. I’m amazed you only had to crop. Great shots.
