Day 119: Don’t Forget Your Booties…

This morning I was on my way to work when I noticed a fog over the fields near where I work. As I was driving I noticed the sun coming up just over the fog. I quickly made a u-turn to get into a position to somewhat capture the moment. I knew that my window was closing fast. The sun comes up and sets quickly, and the fact that I saw the sun large meant that I was already missing it. I pulled up quick and snapped three quick pictures. Of course I was going to try and capture this moment in HDR! When I got home tonight and put it together though I actually liked one of the pictures straight out of the camera better than my HDR compilation. I wish that I had known that this was going to happen ahead of time so that I could have been in position somewhere to get the sun as it first rose. By seeing it late I had to shoot where I could, and the houses got in the way. To get this shot with the sun coming out of the fog would have been great!

On groundhog day I would have loved to capture a groundhog, but of course I didn’t have time to hunt for one all day. I thought that I would use a title though from the movie just for fun.

  1. I kind of like how the houses are just hanging there, they seem so ethereal. It is easy to imagine the occupants all shrouded in sleep with their houses wrapped up in a blanket of fog.

  2. Thanks for the kind words. Leanne yes they actually do exist. In certain parts of the country they actually pull them out like in the movie so that they can ‘predict’ when spring will occur. On a super unseasonably warm day they predicted six more weeks of winter.
