Day 74: The Bridge To Nowhere

Since the whole premise of this site is to post a photo a day here is a fresh one. Today I went back to a bridge that I have been wanting to photograph since the fall. I really couldn’t find a good angle then, but with the recent lovefest that I have had for HDR processing I thought that it would be nice. With the flooding of the Wabash river photographing this bridge was a little tougher than I thought it would be. One side of the bridge has a path and a set of steps leading up to it. The trouble is that on that side about twenty feet of water stood between me and the steps. I never even had a chance. I drove around to the other side of the bridge, and found that I could drive right up to the edge of it. Of course the road that took me to the Davis Ferry Bridge was Davis Ferry Road. I drove right up to it so that I could take this shot. I had thought about taking a shot from either angle, but I liked the idea of seeing right down to the light at the end. I may have to come back here in the winter when I can get to the bridge from the other side where they actually have parking. I think that a shot with the stairs in it would be great. Of course that is something to look forward to.

Doing some research on the bridge I have found out that it has had an interesting existence. Before the bridge was built in 1912 the only way to get across the river there was on the Davis Ferry. That makes a lot of sense. Part of the fun of this project of shooting a new picture a day will be to learn about my new town. Maybe I should take the time to dig into the history of everything that I shoot.
