Seeing Band Of Horses Live

Saturday night we were in Fishers to see Band Of Horses and Dinosaur Jr. play. I have liked Band Of Horses for a while now, and this was a pretty cool way to see them live.

Using The Sony RX100 Again

I tried to get a pass through Zuma for this show, but the venue and promoter ghosted me. That left me with the Sony point and shoot in the crowd making photos. At some level it was easier because I didn’t have to sign any waivers and I could photograph the entire show. There was no rush to get the photos edited, captioned, and sent out. I also didn’t have to ask any bands for approval to use the photos. I could just take my time and edit the photos on my time. The downside is that the quality isn’t always the best. For an Instagram post though they work. I really love music photography. I need to figure out why agencies get ghosted for shows.

A Rough Start

There is no way to sugarcoat this. The Dinosaur Jr. show was awful. It was not the band that was bad. It was the sound system. When it wasn’t sending an ear piercing screech through the speakers it would cut out often. There were also times when I realized that instruments were not being heard. When everything seemed to be working somewhat well there was a constant crackling through the speakers. It was a terrible sound, and I felt bad for the band. They deserved better than that. Thankfully they figured things out by the time that Band Of Horses took the stage.

In A Drawer

I don’t know why I love the song In A Drawer so much. I just do. I first heard it on a vacation while having a great time so maybe that has something to do with it. On Saturday night I was able to hear it live with J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr. coming on stage to sing his part on the song. This is a cool tour that allows moments like this to happen. I went to the show hoping to hear the song, but looking at the tour I knew that it was a longshot. I ended up getting the best possible scenario of hearing the song live.

Can’t Stop Seeing Light

I have a problem at shows where I can’t shut off my photo brain. I am always seeing cool light. When I am out making photos I often have music playing so to me they go together. When I am seeing one of those bands live I want to have my camera out all of the time. I am getting better at just pulling it out every now and then. It is a fun way to do what I love and document a cool show.
