Using Film At A Concert
A couple of weeks ago while getting ready to head to the Billy Joel concert I grabbed my digital point and shoot. It is the only kind of camera that you can take into a venue like this. I had the crazy idea to take my film point and shoot as well to try it out. The only problem was that I had a roll of film in the camera that was kind of experimental. I didn’t want to use it at the concert. I took the camera for a walk around Logansport to burn the rest of the roll. That was a good thing as the film was not good and none of the photos really turned out. I was able to put my roll of Portra 400 into the camera though. It really thought that if everything worked according to plan that I could end up with some fun photos. That was the case. I really like how some of these turned out. I had this great idea to really document every part of the day with the camera, but we arrived at the stadium far too late for that. For the next concert I plan on having some fun everywhere with the film camera.
Learning For The Future
I would love to try this experiment again. I learned some things at this first show that I can apply to future shows. I really need light on the stage and around it for the photos to look good. For this first concert I made photos at all times. When the stage was flooded with light, when it was lit just a little, and when it was relatively dark. It was worth it to cover my bases, but now I know how the camera will read each scene. Below are a few bonus photos that I liked from the concert.
