Another Purdue Clock Tower Sunset

Sunset On Campus

I have been taking a few sunset walks on the campus of Purdue. It seems so weird to see it so empty this time of year. In the summer it may even have more people walking around than I see now. One thing that I realized on these walks is how much I enjoy having people in my photos. They add that extra element of interest. Waiting for the right person to walk by to complete the scene is part of the fun. Right now though it is all about documenting the empty campus.

The Last Ride For The Mavic Air

When I was on campus making these photos with my DJI Mavic Air I knew that my new drone would arrive the next day. That effectively ends the run of the old Mavic Air. It is a great drone that has made many good photos for me. I just wanted a little more, and the Mavic Pro 2 will give me that. It was still cool to make a couple of photos that I really like with the Mavic Air one last time.

Edit: Of course my bad luck with buying photography gear continues. Even with the current crisis DJI announced a new Mavic Air with a 40 something megapixel sensor on it. I really like the Mavic Pro, but man I will have to figure this out.

Plan A

My plan on this night was to make a photo like you see above. I was then going to make my sunset photo at the Black Cultural Center. The skies turned amazing though, and I ran back the couple of blocks to make the pink sunset photo that ran a couple of days ago here. It is funny how quickly plan A can turn into plan B. Part of the fun of photography is realizing the change and adapting quickly.

The Week In Photos

Last week was a very productive week for me. I have been very good at finding the times to get out and stretch my legs and my creativity. I have really enjoyed the extra time with the family at home. It has made me rethink this whole photography thing. The way things are going right now I am still doing well with my work while spending minimal time away from home. That is a great way to do it. You can see my favorite photos from last week here.

  1. Great shot of the bald eagle calling out in the tree. I like that you are using a drone to get some unusual photos like the one of the eagle and tower.

    1. Thank you very much. The eagle photo was not made with a drone for a couple of reasons. The first is that it would disturb the animal, and the second is that the eagle would probably take out the drone.
