A Salute to the Veterans

It Is Never Enough

No matter what you do for a veteran it really can never be enough. Most of them have seen things that we cannot imagine, and then have to come back home to try and pretend that it didn’t happen. In all reality these veterans deserve more than a handshake once a year from everyone. They have done something that I have never done, and no matter how many times I thank them I don’t think that it is enough. To all of you out there who serve or have served I would just like to say thank you. You have gone above and beyond the call to make us feel safe.

The Photo

I should talk about the photo a little today as well. Going into the football game Saturday I made myself a list of things to shoot. It was not written down, but I had a small punch list in my head of things to get on the day. I was not on assignment so my list makes things interesting for me. The bad part about the list was that I had it completed by the first quarter. That just opened me up to experiment a little though.

I used a familiar combination to make this photo. I had the Canon 60D on my Black Rapid strap with the Tamron 10-24mm lens on it to shoot the wide subjects on the day. I did not use it much, but I really liked most of the stuff that I made with it. The main purpose for the rig was to get the team coming out at the beginning of the game, and then this shot. I had this in mind during the week as a photo to make. The only bad thing on the day though was the sky. It was not very nice, and would bring a little rain shortly. Normally I would fix that by turning the shot black and white. I wanted the red, white, and blue though so I had to leave it. The real answer here would have been to hold the camera higher when I made the image. That sounds easy, but I was already on my tiptoes with the camera over my head. The monopod at my feet could have made this image. I will have to try this again sometime when the conditions are right, and I can get the height that I need.
