Tonight I was called into work just before the sunset. I knew that the way that the clouds looked that in a couple of minutes something awesome would happen. I was completely dark out, and I even had my lights on in my car. I quickly set up the tripod to try a couple of test shots. I didn’t want the lighter side of the spectrum so I decided to try something new. This is a three shot HDR image that was taken by using just the upper range of what would normally be the six shot spectrum. I really thought that the scene was beautiful, and I was hoping that one of those images would convey that beauty. I really liked parts of each of the three shots so I decided to run them through Photomatix to see what it could do. In the end I like the image, but I wish that the sun had come out a little better. Maybe I should have treated the first three shots as if they were on the lighter side of the spectrum and taken three more darker shots. That may have given me the shot that I was after. In the end this is an exercise in learning, and I think that I learned something today.
One cool thing about this shots is the fact that you can kind of see the rain moving in. I took this shots, and by the time that I had my gear broken down it had started to rain. I just missed a downpour when I got to work by a couple of minutes. Sometimes it is all about timing.
I love it when the clouds fan out like that. It really makes the image. Fantastic image.
I don’t know if you are into these, but I nominated you for an award

I most definitely love to shoot rural areas. I’d say both urban and rural really cancel each other out. Nice shot!
