Today I was on a mission for work when I came across this building in downtown Lafayette. As per usual I looked at the corner so that I could return after work to get a picture. An older brick building with some texture makes for a cool picture. Add an ad that takes up half the building and you have a cool idea for a shot. I just had to find the right angle. I originally shot it from across the street. I knew that it looked cool, but I wanted something more. I decided to pull into an empty parking lot to get this shot. I had thought about cropping it to get more of the building, but I really like how this turned out. It just looked weird any other way. This building is near the corner of 9th and Union. I assume it was a grocery store at some point, but I don’t know much about it. A quick Google search turned up nothing. I guess if I knew too much it would ruin some of the mystery of the picture.
This was another HDR image made from six pictures. I set my bracketing to shoot at 1 stop intervals. Combining all six of them had a great effect.
In recent years, old derelict buildings have been demolished to reveal old Coke murals painted on the sides of next door edifices like this. They are a treasure to local historians and street photographers.
In my town that is.
I was just thinking about how my hometown in the last ten years has torn down all the buildings with character to them. It is a shame. The next time that I go home I would have loved to have shot some of the older buildings that I used to look at as a kid.
