The Old Herald Argus Building

The Old Herald Argus Building In LaPorte, Indiana

As a kid the coolest thing ever was to be in the paper. The paper was a place to get local news and the slice of life photos was always a place that I would look as a kid. I feel that those slice of life photos by Bob Wellinski is what I think of when I make similar photos. Those early newspaper photos are what shaped what I think a good photo is. This old building now sits empty in LaPorte. It is a shame. A lot of good work was done out of here over the years.

The State Of The Newspaper

The LaPorte Herald Argus as I knew it is no longer. That is a shame. Newspapers as we know them are really a relic. Even here in Lafayette which is a fairly big area our paper acts like they are a small town paper. They don’t have a photographer. They use cell phone photos instead. That is a shame. The slice of life photos from a photojournalist was something that I used to love to see. Years ago the local paper here in Lafayette had a photo staff that would look for those things. Now they are just lost.
