The 2019 Horizon League Tennis Championships
This past weekend I spent a lot of time at the Schwartz Tennis Complex photographing the Horizon League Tennis Championships. It was a fun, but long couple of days with a lot of tennis being played. I decided to break up the matches a bit just for my sanity writing the posts. The men’s semifinals were the first event that I photographed so they will come first.
I don’t get to photograph tennis often. Getting a chance to photograph six matches in two days allows me to try a lot of things to see what works and what doesn’t. Some sports I feel that I know exactly where I need to be when. In tennis I am still feeling that part out. I don’t want to ever have my camera interfere with play so I tend to error on the side of caution in that respect. By Sunday though I was feeling comfortable, and I hope that it showed up in the photos.
The best part about photographing a championship is the emotion. It really makes the long days completely worth it. The last men’s match on Saturday came down to the final ball. With only one court in play it was so quiet while the ball was in motion. When each point was scored though the emotion was amazing. After a long morning that really made things fun for me. This week my week in photos is full of these moments. Take a look at it here.
