Xavier Opens Up Big East Play At Hinkle Fieldhouse

Xavier Wins At Butler to Win Their Big East Opener

Friday night I was able to close out my sports year at Hinkle Fieldhouse. I can’t think of many better places to cap off a great year shooting sports. It is a historic arena that looks great. To make things even better I was able to photograph a school that was great to me in 2018 get a big win. I have had a lot of fun during the year shooting for Xavier, and this was a great way to cap that off. They pulled out the win on the road to start off their Big East season right.

Using the Canon 85mm f/1.2 Lens

I really think that some sports lend themselves to this lens more than others. A sport like wrestling could really be cool with this lens. It has a place to give a different look in basketball, but I couldn’t see using it for much of the game. I used it Friday at the very end of the game knowing that I would be heading into the locker room with the team, and I really wanted what that f/1.2 would give me in there. I love the way that it makes the background melt away in a shot like the one above.

Sprinting Into 2018

This is the last blog post of 2018 as well as the last sporting event that I will shoot this year. This past year I travelled to 13 states making photos, and something sold from every trip. Many of those trips were with teams that were paying me to travel with them. I was not sure how much I would travel in 2018, but already a couple of great opportunities have popped up that always seem to get that ball rolling. Every year as I look back at what I have accomplished in the year before it really blows me away. It does not seem like that long ago that I was a supervisor on a can line making lids for soup cans. An idea that I could do more has blossomed into a reality that I still cannot believe. Thank you all for your support in making what I love to do a reality.
