Getting the Kinks Out With Purdue Basketball
Last night I went out to Mackey Arena to shoot the first half of the exhibition game against Southern Indiana. It has been almost seven months since I last shot any kind of basketball including practice. The last basketball I photographed was the NCAA Women’s Final Four games in Indy. I knew I would be a little rusty heading into the game. Basketball is a quick sport, and you are very close to the action. There is not much room for error. There were a few shots that I would like to have back from the night, but that is why you go out and practice. I will be shooting for real soon, and I want to be at the top of my game when I do. In that respect it was a good night. Tomorrow night I will be shooting volleyball for Purdue before heading to Terre Haute for a couple of games for Indiana State. This should be another good week.
Watching the New Kids Play
Every year I am very excited to see the team play early in the year. I don’t have access to practices and such so the first game is my first chance to see the new guys play. From what I saw last night Carsen Edwards is the real deal. He will be fun to watch grow as a Boilermaker. He had one great moment as he took the ball to the hoop and ended an explosive drive with a big slam. He has the tools, and he will be fun to watch. Spike Albrecht was another player I was interested in seeing play. He seemed to have a good hold on the point guard position when he was in the game. Imagine if the perceived negative for the team would become the strength. You learn a little about the team in a game like this, but you really just get to see a lot of people play. The competition is not what you need to judge your team. It is a fun time though, and I was glad to be back in Mackey again.
The Week In Photos
Last week I photographed baseball for the first time in a while. The drought was not as long as my basketball drought, but it seemed like a long time. I had a good week, and you can see some of my favorite images from last week here.
