Seeing the 2015 Purdue Football Team Up Close and Personal

Yesterday I was part of the group that photographed the 2015 Purdue Football team for media day. I love photographing football, but I like these moments as well. You get to learn a little about the players as they interact with each other. With this knowledge it makes you root for the team that much more. I wish that everyone could see what I saw today. They might hold back some of their criticism when they realize that these are just college kids playing a game. They really seem to enjoy the different aspects of media day. Maybe it is the day off of practice that makes everything a little bit better. Whatever it is I really enjoy photographing media day, and I hope that I can photograph many more in the future.

Trying Something a Little Different

I had made a few portraits for the players when I decided to change it up a little. I didn’t want to use fill flash in the building, but I thought that I could use my speed light to add some drama to a couple of photos. I wanted to try it out on quarterback David Blough who had a football helmet on. I thought that it would add a nice effect to the photo. I really liked what it did, and I kept my speed light close for the moments that I thought would look good with a little extra to them. The photo above of Ja’Whaun Bentley was one with a little added light to it. I think that it makes a tough looking player that much tougher.

The 2015 Purdue Football Season

I am very excited for the upcoming Purdue Football season. This team seems ready for something great. They have a lot of players that I cannot wait to get out and photograph again. The next time that I will photograph them they will be on the field against Indiana State. Today seeing the football field again made me think that the coming fall will not be so bad. How bad can it be when you get to photograph football on Saturdays. You won’t find much about this team in the different football preview issues. The so called ‘experts’ have written them off already. This team seems like the kind of team that is using that right now. I would be surprised if they didn’t sneak up on a few opponents.
