The Frank Thomas Statue at U.S. Cellular Field
Every now and then a player comes along that is just a cut above the rest. From nearly day one with the White Sox that player was Frank Thomas. About a week ago was the 25th anniversary of his call up to the White Sox. I remember him being a big deal at the time, but I didn’t know just how big of a deal he would be. Frank could really hit the heck out of the ball. Early in his career he had to have lost so many home runs because of the tremendous top spin that he would put on the ball. He started his career in the old park, but spent most of his time with the White Sox in the new park. This was his park. He christened many of the new seats with his home runs. He is part of the 500 home run club and in the Baseball Hall of Fame. His biggest accomplishment though may be the banner behind him. He was part of the 2005 White Sox team that won the World Series. It is hard to believe that it has been ten years since that happened. Frank will always be remembered by White Sox fans, but he is now part of the stadium for the new fans to discover.
