Camera Review: Canon Rebel XT

canon rebel xt

A Quick Look at the Canon Rebel XT

This is a different review than I have made on here before. This camera has been out for a while now. I bought mine in 2006. It was the camera that really started it all for me. I spent a long time using this camera without really worrying about the art of photography. By the time that I decided to jump into photography seriously I bought a new camera making this one obsolete. Looking back though I realize what a great camera this was for me. It was very intelligent in the auto modes making me seem like a better photographer than I was. Had it not performed as well I would have had to start my journey towards learning much quicker than I did.

I saw one of these cameras for sale at a used shop, and I thought about what a great starter camera it could be. You can make some great images just using the standard jpeg. If you want to get a little more advanced the camera will shoot in RAW mode allowing you to get the most out of the file. This year it is rumored that Canon will be coming out with a camera in the 50mp range. The 8mp range of this camera really does not stack up to that, but neither will anything else. For around $100 this would be a great little camera with some decent glass on it.

Where is the Camera Now?

Now this camera is kind of the backup to the backup. I do still put it to use every now and then though as a remote camera. Unless the files are going to be blown up to a huge size the 8mp works very well for showcasing the photos on the web. The roller derby shot below was taken last year from one of my remote locations. I don’t bring the camera out very often, but it is still a great little camera. You can pick up this exact camera right now on Amazon for around $87. If you are looking to get a start this is a great way to get into the game for a low price.
