More Jelly

Photo of the Day

Here is another image that was made in Chicago a few weeks ago. The real highlight for me at the Shedd Aquarium was seeing the different types of jelly fish. What makes them so great to photograph is the way that they are lit. The jellies are lit like I would want them to be if I was doing it in a studio. The beauty is that I don’t have to set up the equipment to do so. I just show up and make the images. The downside is that the place is poorly lit, and it makes capturing a moving subject very hard to do with a low ISO. Luckily I have a good camera that can do just that.

While I was at the aquarium I found that most of the fish and other wildlife really did not interest me after seeing the jellyfish. I think that they were too hard to photograph in the low light. The way that the jellies reelected the light really made them great fun to photograph. I waited several minutes to photograph the jelly that was on the blog a couple of weeks ago. I wanted it just so. This one was done a bit quicker as I was just entering the exhibit. I did wait for a line of high school kids making selfies passed to get the shot though.

Technical Data

This photo was easy to edit. I just performed a small clarity adjustment to it, and it was ready to go. I worked hard on the scene to get it right, and I really did not want to adjust to much inside of Lightroom 5.

Happy Mother’s Day!

Happy Mother’s Day to all of the mothers out there.
