Photo of the Day
Tonight I went over to my brother’s house to do something, but I also had an another idea in mind. I wanted to try and capture the dogs outside with my new lens. For some reason I had to have the focal length set at f/2.8. It was probably too much, but I wanted the practice after struggling a bit with the shallow depth of field at the roller derby practice the other night. I have to get used to how the lens focuses quickly as two bouts are coming up. I really wanted to have a good picture of Mocha up tonight, but when I saw this picture of Riot (whose real name is Patriot) I knew that it was the one. Tomorrow is Patriot Day after all. Maybe I will post another picture of him tomorrow with that in mind.
Technical Data
Besides shooting at f/2.8 with the new lens this is pretty much straight out of the camera. The only thing that I changed was the white balance in Lightroom. The dogs were going in and out of the sun so I kept the white balance on auto knowing that I could change it in Lightroom. I thought that the shot looked good, but when I switched the white balance to shade a warm glow came over the picture that I liked.
Kelby Worldwide Photowalk
Here is that part of the post where I talk about the photowalk that I am leading on campus after the Wisconsin game in October. The date is October 13th to be exact, and the walk will start at 4 o’clock est at the Neil Armstrong Statue in front of the Armstrong Hall of Engineering. Over 1,000 photowalks are planned around the world. If you are not near West Lafayette then you kind find a walk near you on the Kelby site. Sign up now to be part of this event. Nearly 17,000 walkers have already signed up so far. Activity has picked up a bit on the Purdue sites even with the short time being posted. You don’t have to be a pro (I am far from it) to attend. Any kind of camera is welcome as well. Here are a few links to the various sites which promote the event. If you want to sign up you should do so on the Kelby site in order to be eligible for the prizes though.

Great shot of a beautiful dachshund. I’ve never seen one with the tortoise shell coat before. Funny how we had similar thoughts regarding our subject matter tonight.
