The Week In Sports

The Week That Was In Sports

This was another fun week in sports. The fall season is winding down so there are championships and senior days going on. Both of them bring emotion to the table which is nice. The week started off at a sectional flag football game. Sunday I was back at the softball field for some fall ball. This time it was another former Harrison softball player going against Purdue. Midweek two high school volleyball games got me back on the court. I had not photographed volleyball in over a month so it was nice to get back to it. All week I was planning on ending the week at Friday night lights, but a job came up outside of sports that took me away from it. It was another fun week getting out there making photos. Right now the only two things on the schedule this coming week are two college football games. The fun is when that changes.

Championship Football

Saturday I was at Harrison to see the flag football sectional championship for Harrison. These games are always emotional, but this was against cross town rival Lafayette Jefferson so it had a little extra juice to it. Harrison took care of business easily, and then celebrated with their trophy. It was a beautiful day to photograph a championship.

Enjoying Flag Football

I really have been enjoying photographing flag football. Most likely this game was my final game of the year. The season seems short, but I try to get to as much of it as I can. It is really cool seeing how much a familiar sport can seem different. The addition of the flags really lets the players use their shiftiness to get away from the defenders. That makes for good photos. I hope that somehow I can get one more game in this year.

Another Familiar Face At Bittinger

For the second week in a row I saw a former Harrison softball player at Bittinger. I had a fun time documenting her day at the park. It is fun seeing these players that I followed throughout high school having success at the next level. Rylan pitched really well against a good Purdue lineup. This coming season will be a fun one to watch.

Finding Details At Volleyball

I love finding the little details at volleyball. The nails of the players are a great way to show some details. They are a great way to show some of the personality of the players. I made these photos on back to back days, and I think they add a little to the gallery.

Up High For The Block

It is harder to make my photos from up high in the local high school gyms. I have to be off to the side which makes the photos harder to make. When I get one though it makes it pretty special. For blocks it is a little easier. I just follow the middle to wherever they go. When the team is on a defensive tear like Harrison was the photos just come.

Senior Night For Harrison

I was excited when Harrison asked me to cover their senior night game this past week. These are four players that I have watched for a while now. Senior night is always an emotional one for the players, but this game was important for the conference title. Harrison started off a little slow maybe because of the pregame emotion, but then put the hammer down for an easy set two and three win.

A Banner Night

I like a good title where the team holds a trophy. The banner is another thing altogether. In the initial scrum with the banner only a player or two is visible because the huge banner blocks the team. Here though things worked out for a conference banner photo that I liked. I learned from the first banner image and positioned myself a little differently for this photo. A new location for the team let the whole story be told as well with the gym signage in the background. I like how this photo turned out.
