41 Years Ago Today

41 years ago today my father took me to the Sox game to celebrate what would be my ninth birthday in a couple of days. At that time I could only see the Sox on WFLD channel 32 on our black and white TV. Seeing the old Sox park with the yellow railings was an amazing experience. Before the game I bumped into Richard Dotson and Carlton Fisk and got their autographs. From that day on Carlton Fisk was my favorite ballplayer. He hasn’t played in a game in 33 years, but he is still my favorite ballplayer.

The photo above is from much later at the new park. Jim Thome is putting a hurt on a baseball. I made this with a point and shoot that I think is not very good, but now has come back into style. A few years ago while eating at a random hotel Jim Thome sits at the table next to us and eats at the breakfast buffet. His son was in travel ball, and this was the team hotel. Nobody else in my party could understand how cool it was to be eating next to a member of the 600 home run club. Jim wasn’t with the Sox long, but in that time he became a player that I loved to watch play.

50 For 50

This is going to be a crazy theme. For the next fifty days I plan on posting a photo of a place that has some meaning to me. Last August I came up with a theme for a week showing some Purdue memories. At the end of this fifty days I will turn fifty. I thought that it would be fun to take a look back at some places that bring back memories for me. This can’t be an all inclusive list, but one that I hope will be fun for you as well as me.
