A Vintage Baseball Game At Prophetstown State Park

Every year I try to get out to the vintage baseball game at Prophetstown State Park. This year was a fun one. They had two teams travel in to play instead of one team playing a local team. I liked the idea of two teams better from the perspective of someone who wants to make cool photos. I love the period uniforms and the look of the 1800’s teams. Having two sets of those uniforms made photos a little bit easier.

A Vintage Look

Saturday morning I had some fun making a preset that would give my photos from the event a vintage look. I went through and edited everything normally at first, and then took some of my favorite photos and added this vintage preset to them. It is not perfect, but I like what it did. If I got really serious about this I would have added some imperfections in different places to each photo. Maybe next time. This time it was about having some fun with my photos. When I am making photos for fun I need to do this more. I start to feel like I need to get something of everyone. Sometimes it would be fun to just go to events and just try something. I don’t always need a big gallery. I can just make one or two good photos. This fall I may mess around with that a little.

Finding Moments

I think that I am pretty good at staying focused and finding moments at events. I have fun for sure, but I am always looking for something interesting. I really loved this moment. There are some clues that this photo was made in modern times, but it could have been made at any time. It is just a player having some fun during a slow moment of the afternoon.

The Scene

I always like a good scene setter image. This was a fun scene with some cool uniforms so I stayed in this spot for a while to make sure that I had what I needed. What better backdrop for a ballgame?

The Ball

This is a unique ball so I tried to show it off as much as I could. In this post you have seen it show up a couple of times already. Here in the prairie grass you can see just what a unique field this was. The bounces were not true, and you really have to be quick on your feet to grab a ball on the bounce. They were playing under the rules were it is an out if you catch it on one bounce so it really added some excitement to the game. I really had fun watching this game.
