The Covington Public Library
These last four libraries this week were all part of a trip down to Covington, Indiana for a softball tournament. Of course this was the final stop on our trip and the last library of the journey. I love how on that trip that every town was different, but they all seemed to have a small library that was mostly funded by the same guy. This one in Covington was very charming and looked great on the day that I photographed it.
Another Carnegie Library Week
This week my afternoon theme will be all about Carnegie Libraries again. The story of how these libraries came to be is fascinating. In the early 1900’s Andrew Carnegie funded the building of more than 1,600 libraries in the United States. The towns that wanted one just had to pledge about 10% of the cost to build it, and promise to keep it up. A few of the libraries have been lost over the years. One of my goals when I travel is to document the remaining libraries when I cross paths with them. This week is all about five of those libraries.
