The Purdue Memorial Union Turns 100

A Milestone For The Purdue Memorial Union

One hundred years ago today the Purdue Memorial Union opened its doors. It was not fully completed until 1929, but on September 9, 1924 the building was first opened up to students. The funds for the building were hard to come by so fundraising continued until the buildings completion in 1929. To us this building is a symbol of Purdue. In 1912 it was the idea of some of the students who thought that the campus needed a place for students to hang out. It is pretty awesome to see that 100 years after the building first opened its doors it is still serving that purpose.

One Of My Favorite Buildings To Photograph

The union is one of my favorite buildings to photograph on campus. With the new arch in front it has become one of the gateways into the university. Over the years we have had a lot of memories inside as a family. We might have to stop by tonight and wish this old building a happy birthday. Not too late though because it is one hundred now.
