Before We Begin

Before I talk about the show too much I have to talk about the fact that today is the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. If you lived through the day then you will know where you were when you found out what was going on. I had the TV on while eating breakfast and reading the paper. I really wasn’t paying much attention to the TV but they were talking about a plane that hit the towers. When the second plane hit suddenly I paid more attention to the TV. It was a crazy day hoping for the best in New York and Washington. That day and the days that followed showed what we can do as a country when we work together. I thought about that day a lot last night as Dustin sand a Toby Keith cover of “Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue.”

The Actual Show

I always love these Loeb Stadium concerts. It lets me get creative and use the light a little better. At the Long Center I basically have two photos that I can make. Here I can move around a little and make some photos and get creative. One great thing about the new Loeb Stadium is that they can have concerts there. I hope that they get a few more in next year.

Having Some Fun With Filters

For the opening act Dasher The Band I broke out my Halo filter for a song. Before the sun goes down the lights don’t have the same effect on stage. By using my filter I was able to bring a little more light into the photo. I am still on the fence on how much I like the photos, but it made things interesting for a bit.

Dasher The Band

It was really cool to hear this band talk about how this was their biggest show yet. They are on the way up, and it was awesome to hear that enthusiasm as they played. They were very good, and anytime you cover John Denver and Dolly Parton at the same time you are doing something really cool.

Details

Before the show I saw them test the light next to the main mic stand. I didn’t get there in time to make this photo. I filed it away for one to get during the show. You only get three songs in the pit, but I liked the idea of this photo. I spent about ten seconds on it, and I am glad that I did. It is a fun detail from a cool night.

One For Me

As the songs ended the lights would go out with the screen in the back still on. I moved to a spot where I could make this photo of Dustin in silhouette. I was really just hoping for him playing, but this gesture was much better and really made this a cooler photo.

Using The Light

The first song had some great light. It was coming from everywhere, and I kept moving to get the light to come into my lens a little. I don’t think the wire likes these much so like the photo above this might be more for me. I like the energy in this photo.

One For The Band

When an artist puts a three song limit on you they kind of limit what you can do. I understand why it happens, but I think that the band are the people that suffer the most from the limit. My agency wants photos of Dustin so I have to focus on him for those three songs to make the best photo that I can. If you are shredding a guitar and wearing a vintage Garth Brooks shirt though you get a photo.
