The Spotted Sandpiper Grabs A Bee
For years I have wondered what the spotted sandpiper eats. I see them bobbing around the logs around the bog, but never really saw what they grabbed. Earlier this year I saw them eating some very young fish or tadpoles. That kind of made sense when you see where they are hunting for food. When I saw this sandpiper grab a bee though my mind was blown. It tried to crush it a few times before finally deciding to swallow it. I would assume that you could get injured eating a bee, but this bird did not seem to care.
The Birds And The Bees
As I was writing the beginning of this post my youngest came into the office to ask what I was doing. I explained that I was writing this post and she asked me what the photo was about. I told her that she was too young to learn about the birds and the bees. Her mother will have to explain that one to her. Now that my bad joke is over here are a couple of bonus photos from this encounter between the sandpiper and the bee.
Wow, Dave, what a series!!
Thank you!
