Great Egrets At The Celery Bog
Thursday I decided to make a trip out to the Celery Bog. It has been a few months since my last visit, but I was hoping to find a heron or two eating. What I stumbled upon though was a large amount of egrets hanging out. In fact it might have been the most egrets that I have seen in one time at the bog. I am by no means a historian out there though. It was neat to see them even if it meant only really getting a closer look as they flew by. With my 600mm lens that means that I am manually focusing on the birds in flight. It is not the easiest thing to do, and after a few passes the reflexes started to come back to me.
The Unexpected
I know that it is something that I often say about the bog, but this trip was highlighted by a bird that I did not expect to see when I left my house. I try not to have expectations when I head to the bog. Nature does not conform to expectations. Having expectations just means that I can be disappointed. Here I was pleasantly surprised by the large amount of egrets. Part of what makes my visits to the bog so much fun is trying to take all of the chaos of all of the wildlife there and to show it in little bits that look great. I need to get back out there and get my walks in again.
