Photographing The Purdue Baseball Scrimmage

Friday night I went out to Alexander Field to watch the Purdue baseball team scrimmage. It had been almost two months since the last Lafayette Aviators game which was my last baseball action in person. I knew that waiting a week for the scrimmages against other teams was not an option. I wanted to get a little baseball action in as soon as I could. It was good to be back out on the diamond again. For the next couple of weekends I will get some baseball in which is always a good thing.

Finally A Good Sunset

Of course the best sunset that I have seen at Alexander Field in a couple of years happened during a scrimmage. The night before I saw some good light at Folk Field, but the action never seemed to be in the right place. Here the action is usually in the same spot so I was able to move over and make a photo. One of these days the light will be right with a packed stadium, and I hope that I am there when that is the case.

The Game Within The Game

I moved behind the third base on deck circle to watch the game within the game a little more closely. When a ball would get past the catcher the race was on. A player from each team had to get to the ball first. Here you can see one of the times when they both got to the ball at the same time. These little things are what make baseball so great.

The Sony 135mm At Baseball

I have been having way too much fun using the Sony 135mm lens at sporting events lately. It is super sharp and super fast. I think that it has a place at the baseball field, and part of the fun of this month will be seeing just where it belongs on the field.

The Week In Photos

Here is a link to my gallery of my favorite images from last week. This is always a fun list to put together. I am trying to think of a new way to do this though. I have been toying around with the idea of having a top ten every week with some explanation of why. Right now it is just dumping photos into a post. I think that I could do more with some talk about each photo. What would you like to see?

  1. I LOVE baseball and you do a great job of capturing, not only the games, but the little things outside the baselines that make it such a great sport.
