30 Days Of Baseball Photos: #12 Back In Safely

Alen Hanson

Alen Hanson Gets Back Into First Base

I made this photo during my short stint working with the Indy Indians. Photographing minor league baseball is a great way to see some amazing athletes. Some of them are not too far away from making it to the big leagues. One of my favorite athletes to cover was Alen Hanson. He played the game hard, and was just one of those athletes that always makes good photos.

Getting The Diving Photo

This is a photo where you want to be as low as you can be. At Purdue I end up on the ground to make the photo. At Victory Field you can actually get down off of the photography platform and stand in the dugout to get lower. That makes it easier to make good photos of the players getting back to the bag. The new technique has the players looking toward right field so you rarely get this head on look anymore. When you do it is golden.
