Finding The Photo
Monday night I went out with the little one because it looked like it would be a great sunset. We were right, but not in the way that I thought it might light up. I was searching for a photo that I could get to quickly when I realized that the answer was right in front of me. Purdue has these great new signs on the light posts that would make for a decent subject. I have been trying to get more into the details of the campus in my photos so this was a perfect way to do just that.
Explaining Current Events
While we were on campus making this photo there was a definite police presence around. You could notice that patrols were up, and my little one asked me why. Explaining race relations to a six year old is not easy. I could have skipped the topic, but went head on because that is where change will start. She has a head start on me. Where I grew up everyone pretty much looked like me. In her school she has class with kids from all over the world. Her world is already far more diverse than mine was. She sees people of all colors and races working together as the norm. I hope that this is the norm moving forward. I still cannot come up with the proper words for how mad this all makes me. Life is not easy. If you start off behind everyone else because of a factor that you didn’t choose it is even harder. The photo above is not beautiful because of one color. It is beautiful because of how all of the colors work together.
