West Lafayette Marching Band March-A-Thon

When The Band Comes To You

Every year the West Lafayette Marching Band coming through our neighborhood seems like a great thing to photograph. Every year it seems like I am working somewhere. This year I had the time that the band was coming through off so it was an easy choice to schedule them to stop at our house. They played “YMCA” for us, and then they played “Happy Birthday” for two members of our household. It was pretty cool to see those kids having fun after they had been out for so long already.

Trying Something Crazy

I still have not yet mastered photography, and I am already trying something new out. I have never really gotten into video. It just seems like way more work than photography. As I was making the video above I realized that I was always right. There is so much time involved all over the place. It is really fun to do though. I had a crazy three camera setup. One camera was in the window of our second story. One camera with an ultra wide lens was right at the curb. The third camera was in the air above it all. The three of them together gave me a couple of cool looks. Learning Adobe Premier Pro on the fly was the hardest part of the deal. In the end I got the video together and synched. I probably should have chosen something easier for my first multi-camera video. One thing that I learned very quickly was to check your file size when exporting. I didn’t know the options all that well so I just did what I knew. After nearly a day of uploading to YouTube my video was finally live. That is the reason why I write all of the 10 tips post for this blog. To maybe stop someone from doing the same stupid things that I did when I started out.

The Week In Photos

This was a fun week for me. I feel that sometimes I just keep making the same photos over and over. This week I was able to get out and try something a little different. You can see my favorite photos from last week here.

Come Walk With Me

On October 5th I am leading a photowalk on the campus of Purdue University. The walk is very informal. It is just a chance for a bunch of photographers to get together to make some images. All skill levels are welcome. Bring whatever you make photos with. You can read more about the walk by going here. Some new and exciting news about the walk is that it now has a sponsor. Camera Outfitters is giving away an 8×10 print to every walker as well as a $25 dollar gift card to one lucky walker. I have also added a $10 gift card to Kathie’s Kandies in downtown Lafayette, as well as a Walt’s Pub gift card. I am working on some other prizes for the walk as well.
