Photographing My Backyard Hummingbird
Last week I tweaked my back to the point I didn’t even want to look at my big glass let alone pick it up to use it. Last night after watching this hummingbird pose for way too long I pulled my 600mm lens out of its case to use it. On a monopod it was not too bad to make a few photos with it. The photo above was made before I put my 2x extender on the lens, but a little crop brought me right into the scene. These birds are so small that it takes a lot of reach to bring them close to the viewer.
Trying Something New
I decided while I was sitting there to try a little video with the Sony A9. I really rarely do video, but here was a good chance to play around with it a little. Of course I should have mounted my camera on a tripod instead of a monopod to make the video, but for a little play it was not too shaky. This might be a fun thing to try out at the celery bog as the fall migration really gets going. I realized that it has been a long time since I put anything up on my YouTube channel. I think that is due to the fact that I don’t have a lot of video experience. This fall I would like to change that a bit.
