A Beautiful Austin Wedding

A Great Weekend In Austin

Last weekend was an extra long weekend for us in Austin as we welcomed Mike into our family. Truth be told he has been a member for a long time, but the wedding just formalized things I guess. The first time that I met Mike he was carrying Kathie’s bags out to the car. That was a huge deal for me to see because Kathy is the one always doing things for others. To see someone doing something even as little as carrying her things was very cool to see. Mike has been amazing for her, and it really made me happy to see them so happy during the weekend. Looking back on the weekend I realized just how cool a destination wedding can be. Both families were on equal ground so to speak, and being away from home was kind of fun for the wedding. It was well planned out with enough stuff to keep us all entertained. I evened learned how to two step. This was a fun weekend that the kids will be talking about for a long time to come.

Always Switched On

Talking to other photographers I think that I have a problem. I can never shut off the photography switch and just enjoy things. I always have to have a camera with me, and I often agonize over exactly what I should bring. This wedding was no different. I really wanted to just enjoy it, but to me enjoying it also involves making photos of the wedding. I knew that the photographers covering the wedding were good. If you don’t believe me then check out their work here.  What I also knew is that for some reason they would be focused on the bride and groom all day and not on my kids. So with that in mind I took my Canon 5D Mark IV and my 24-105mm lens to the wedding. I had thoughts of taking more glass with me, but one camera and one lens was enough. I really tried to not make photos, but the one above makes me glad that I did. My daughter was tasked with giving the groom the brides ring during the service. The photo of her dropping in Mike’s hand while running away was one that I was happy to make, and I had a pretty good angle on it as well. Before everything was crazy I talked to the photographer to make sure that I was not stepping on any toes. They are good enough that they don’t have to worry about a hack like me so it all worked out.

The Week In Photos

Last week was a break from sports to concentrate on some photos that are a little different. I love photographing baseball, and taking a break so early in the baseball season can be hard. Getting to make some travel photos though is something that I don’t do enough of. This is a shorter, but still very fun edition of the week in photos. You can see my favorite photos from the past week here.
