Remembering Those Who Gave All

Today Is A Day To Remember Those Who Gave the Ultimate Sacrifice

Today is a fun day to go out and have some fun. It is a day off of work, and a day to have fun with family and friends. In the middle of our cookout or trip to the beach we should stop and remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice so that we can do those things. Memorial Day is the day set aside for us to remember all of those who gave their lives serving our country. Over the years we have changed the nature of the holiday, but the overall meaning is still there. At first it was just called decoration day. It gradually became known as Memorial Day. In the 70’s a bill was passed to move the holiday from May 30th to the last Monday in May. The creation of the three day weekend I think took some of the focus off of the holiday and more on the party.

Patton Watches Over Boston

While touring Boston last October I came across this statue of Patton near the Hatch Shell on the Charles River Esplanade. Patton was a polarizing figure in his time. He was not one to suffer fools, but at some point he was in charge of many men in a war. He had one job which was to win. That is how he saw it. I don’t think a figure like Patton could rise today because of the way he did things. That would never fly in the 24 hour news society we live in now. He was a man that the Germans feared though. Even after he fell out of favor he was used as a decoy as to scare the Germans. He was a larger than life figure when alive so it makes sense that he has a large statue.

The Week in Photos

Last week was a fun week with some tournament baseball for me to shoot. I love shooting baseball, and the tournament atmosphere really makes it even better. A lot more emotion going around which is always nice. This coming week I have the opening day for the local collegiate baseball team followed by hopefully more tournament baseball. Here is a look at some of my favorite photos from the last week.
