Football Is Back…Sort Of

For some reason I have never really gotten into the spring football game. I love football. There is no doubt about that. I don’t mind photographing a football practice. I think that you can get a lot of interesting pictures that way. For some reason though when I walk into Ross Ade Stadium I expect something a little more. I think that the last time that I attended a spring game I was actually in town to see Purdue and Indiana face off in baseball. I may not be remembering it right, but I am pretty sure that it has been since 2011 that I saw a spring game in person. This weekend the Hoosiers are back for the first time since 2011, and I was back in Ross Ade Stadium for the spring game. I still don’t know how much I enjoy it as a game, but I really do enjoy making football photos. Once I quit worrying about how the game was being scored I feel like I made better images. I think the emotion is far off a regular game day, but in April this will do just fine. It was awesome being back on the field at Ross Ade Stadium again. I can’t wait to see what this team can do next season. They start off with a tough test in Indy against a very good Louisville team.

A Beautiful Day For Football

Yesterday was a beautiful day in West Lafayette. The rain and clouds from the end of the week were gone, and blue skies ruled the morning. Before the game started I took my drone up to make the photo that you see above. As you can see it was what some would call a Chamber of Commerce day. As good as this stadium looks empty, I can’t wait to see it filled with fans next fall.

The Old and the New

Yesterday I was at the Purdue spring football game to see some of the new faces. This is an exciting time for the football program, and I wanted to see the new faces in person. At this point I think that everyone is still feeling each other out. The coaching staff has a lot of work to do to see just what they have inherited. A clean slate means that everything is truly up for grabs for next season. Each player must compete to show the new staff just what they can do.

Seeing the Jeff Brohm Led Boilers For the First Time

I have not had the pleasure yet of seeing Jeff Brohm on the football field for Purdue yet. I was excited to see just what kind of a coach he was. You can read all that you want, but seeing is believing. Brohm really is what I expect a football coach to be. Even during the spring game he was out there getting his guys to give it all that they had. This was not time for fun it was time for work. From what I have read, and now what I have seen I think that Purdue is in good hands here. The road back is long, but this is a guy capable of getting Purdue back to where it should be.

What is Next For Me?

As I have been doing with my sports posts I try and use this section to tell you what you can expect to see next from me as far as sports are concerned. Last week the weather played havoc with my schedule. That is April though. I have been saying all weekend that I will see Purdue and Indiana play baseball. A party and an event out of my control stopped me the first two games of the series. I plan on heading to Alexander Field today for some fun. We will see if that ever happens. Monday I will be back in Terre Haute for a doubleheader at Indiana State. Bright and early in the morning I will be photographing the final day of the ISU Invitational. Beyond that I won’t even speculate at this point. The weather could change in a heartbeat this time of the year. With any luck I will have a couple of baseball games to photograph during the week.

Touring the New Football Performance Complex

Yesterday started off with a tour of the new football performance complex. This is going to be a huge deal when it is completed later this year. Right now you can just see the outline of what is going to be in place there, but it is a cool outline. I hope that when the building is completed that I will be able to go in and see just what will have been done in the meantime. This is going to be a huge deal for Purdue football when it is completed. I put up a gallery for Purdue Sports yesterday that you can view here. During the spring season I had an idea for a photo of the team on the practice field with the mid construction complex in the background. I thought that the new performance complex was a fitting metaphor for the football team. Both are going to be amazing, but they both have a little work to do to get there.

Pictures…Get Your Pictures

My full gallery from the game is up here. I don’t know if it is the nature of the game or if it was just me, but I don’t have one action photo to point to as the one. Normally I don’t have to wait to long to redeem myself after a bad game. I have a while before I shoot football again. After saying all of that if you want any of the photos from the game they are here on my website. The right click option is disabled so that you will download the full file. Just click on the arrow at the bottom right of the photo. All I ask is that you give credit if you use the photo on social media, and that it is used for non-comercial purposes.
