A Long and Amazing Day at Bob Warn Field

Yesterday had many stories during the course of the day. The biggest of course was the nearly three hour rain and lightning delay that pushed the schedule back. That was the bad news. The good news was that the weather that was supposed to develop later that night did not. When play resumed we were treated to some good baseball. I did not think that we would top the ninth inning walk off home run by Boomer Synek. His bomb helped Evansville live to play another day. His mohawk as he jumped into the pile of his teammates at home plate was amazing to photograph. When game one is that good you know that you have a long day ahead of you because you will not top that. Indiana State then came out and took care of business to keep the home crowd happy. Then the unthinkable happened. Dallas Baptist was down 7-2 heading into the bottom of the 8th inning. Somehow they managed to keep the inning going multiple times to take a 8-7 lead by the time it was over. Like a true champion though Southern Illinois fought back tying the game with a home run in the top of the 9th. Then Matt Duce stepped up to the plate. The sophomore had not hit a home run yet in his college career. He had already hit two on the day making him the hero of the game so far. I was already thinking of corny headlines with his name and home run total involved. He belted another home run to walk it off for Dallas Baptist. The first three home runs of his career all in a MVC Tournament game. He is one of those stories that tournaments seem to bring out. I had a feeling when he was at the plate so I was at the field entrance gate with my 17-40mm lens on my camera. I raced onto the field with the team and made one of my favorite baseball photos of the year. You can’t beat the tournament atmosphere for photos. Once again the staff here at Indiana State was amazing. Even on a long day I never wanted for anything. They have been putting in the hours to make sure that this tournament is going off the way that it has been so far. With everything that yesterday threw at them they did a great job. This has been a fun tournament so far. After eight games in two days with a 17 hour day yesterday I am ready to shoot more baseball today.

MiLB Photos of the Week

Last week I only shot one MiLB game, but I did get another photo in the MiLB Photos of the Week. This week I will not shoot any MiLB games so I will not be in the gallery next week. It really is awesome to see your work alongside some other great photographers week after week. You can find the gallery here. They took my name off of the caption for some reason, but my photo is the shot of T.J. House arguing with the umpire.

Bonus Photos

Below are a couple of photos that I liked from a long day at the stadium.
