Back at the Rankin Track and Field Complex
This year I did not think that I would be able to shoot any outdoor track meets. The schedule was not lining up right for a while. A cancellation followed by a little luck will allow me to shoot a little this weekend. I have said it before, but I don’t know why track and field does not have more fans. Each athlete is amazing, and is really doing something special. The specialty training has been paying off for Purdue who is moving up in the college track world. As the real meet starts today it will be fun to see just how well everyone is doing.
Chuk is the Man
I was lucky enough to find myself at a Purdue track meet when Chukwuebuka Enekwechi was a freshman. The following year I covered him as a sophomore winning the Big Ten title at the outdoor meet. At the time I thought that he must have been an underclassman because of his build and poise. I was wrong. Chuk is now a senior though, and today I will get to photograph his senior day and final day at the Purdue track. Chuk started things off by setting a venue record in the hammer throw last night. Not a bad way to start the ride into the sunset.
Micaela Hazlewood Leads the Women
On the women’s side Micaela Hazlewood led the Purdue charge. She put up a top six all time throw on her final attempt to win the event. Purdue was strong here with three members of the team finishing in the top five. Micaela is just a sophomore, but she is already placing her mark on the Purdue record books in the weights. She has two more events today to try and move further up in the record books.
You can view more of my photos from the event on the Purdue Exposure page here. With many events today the page tonight will probably be very large.
