Lafayette Brawlin’ Dolls vs Prairieland Punishers

Photographing the Lafayette Brawlin’ Dolls

Yesterday I photographed my first bout in nearly a year. I love photographing derby. It really seems like anything can happen at any time. You really have to be on your toes across the track to capture the moments. I was really looking forward to trying out the Canon 1DX at derby. So far I have not found anything really wrong with the camera in the week that I have had it. It did not disappoint while shooting derby. I used it as my main camera during the action. The best part about roller derby is that you really don’t need any special credentials to shoot it. I shoot for the Brawlin’ Dolls, but you could sit right beside me during the bout. Not only is the action close to you, but it is great to photograph. Pick something that you want to go for, and give it a go. The new lights in the Brawl House make things a little easier. The next bout is November 14th at the Brawl House. Come on out and enjoy the action.

2015 MiLBY’s Photo of the Year

This year I covered only four games for the Indianapolis Indians, but I was blessed with some great action to photograph. My image of Josh Bell getting an ice bath after a 13th inning walk off hit in his first triple A game was nominated for the photo of the year by Minor League Baseball. I don’t ask for a lot, but if you could vote for it here that would be great. I am up against some great photos so I will need all the votes that I can get.
