A Barn and a Windmill

Two of My Favorite Things Together

When I started getting serious about photography a few years ago I had just moved to West Lafayette. We don’t have mountains or scenic lakes here, but we do have barns and windmills. I joked early on that they were my mountains and streams. The early days of this blog and the photo 365 project that started it consisted of many shots made out here of the windmills with a few barns sprinkled in. They were easy targets for me. I don’t get out there as much anymore. I usually prefer a target moving a little faster. It is nice to get back to the basics every now and then though.

Making an Excuse to See the Barns

Now when I get to the barns it usually is not in the best light. This midday light is not the best for landscapes, but it still can work. I wanted my daughter to take a nap the other day so we went for a car ride. That usually does the trick, and it did that day. Once she was asleep I was able to make some interesting photos on my small ride. Sometimes you have to get your baby on the right schedule, and during that time you can make an interesting photo as well.
