Over Exposed

Photo of the Day

Yesterday I was in Chicago to see the White Sox take on the Yankees. I went with my nephew who is a Yankees fan with a couple of things in mind. I wanted to see Paul Konerko play one last time. He wanted to see Derek Jeter play one final time. I also wanted to try some multi-exposures during the day. I had a couple of ideas to make it work, but I just needed to try them out. I took some normal photos at the game, but not as many as I normally would. You really cut down on what you take when you are not getting paid to edit the photos. White Sox starter John Danks had a very solid outing which is why I chose him for the lead photo. I was not able to hold my 70-200mm with the extender as steady as I would have liked during the experiment. I tried a couple of ways to form a tripod with my body, but the subtle movements really show in the photos. I also would have liked to have moved a bit to get the base out of the way. It seemed to always be in the photos. I guess I am too used to really being able to pick my spot in baseball. For an experiment this did work just fine though. I also learned that sometimes it is even better to be on the opposite side of the pitcher. With two lefties starting I thought that we were in the perfect spot to make a multi-exposure of them. I decided to try some with a right handed pitcher, and I liked seeing the name on the jersey, and then the face on the last exposure.

Bonus Pictures

Here are a few other photos from the day of the various pitchers that entered the game. Some motions are great for this technique while others are not. In any case a little study of the pitcher can help determine the three points to capture to make the photo really work. Click on any photo to see it bigger.
