Never Forget

Photo of the Day

Where were you when the world stopped turning? Those are some of the words from a popular song that was written just after September 11th, 2001. I remember sitting at my kitchen table eating breakfast before school when the knowledge that what I was seeing on TV was something more than a fire. Watching the second plane crash into the South Tower is a vision that I will never forget. My day stopped then. School was secondary (although most of my classes were cancelled). I was glued to the TV as were most people around the world. The events of the day were horrible, but I remember the spirit of the country at the time. Everyone seemed to pull together, and the constant bickering was not present. I wish that people could remember that feeling and act accordingly all of the time.

This picture was taken in 2010 when I first bought my iPhone 4. I was really enjoying using it to capture everything. I really loved this display on the Purdue campus, and I thought that it was very much picture worthy. I wish that I had my dSLR though to capture the full scene. No matter what though this was one of the first pictures that I took with my phone, and it is still one of my favorites.

Technical Data

Most of the technical work for this picture was done inside the phone. I used the HDR function in the photo app to bring out the details in the scene. This was my first look into what would become an obsession for a small period of time. I did bring the photo into Lightroom 5 to convert it to black and white. I really did not think that the colors were strong enough to carry the picture. I liked the somber tone that taking the colors away gave to this photo.
