Sunrise at the Airport

Photo of the Day

A couple of weeks ago I took my father in law to the airport. It was an early morning trip, but I thought that I could get a sunrise picture out of the deal. The sun came up very quickly though, and it was all I could do to get off one of the airport roads to capture it. There was a crescent moon as well, but zooming out to include that made everything too small. Yet again I was in such a hurry that I did not bother with the tripod. Since my trip to Colorado mine has been broken, and it takes too long to use. I might have to fix that problem before I head to Ocean City, Maryland in July. There will be many instances where my tripod will be very useful there. This is more of a snapshot, but I really liked something about it.

Technical Data

As I usually do I made this picture with an HDR image in mind. The only problem was that I was too shaky on the overexposed portion of the image. I really would have liked a much longer shutter speed to make the passing cars just streaks of light. When shooting handheld though you done always have a lot of options. Since this was more of a snapshot I did not take too much time editing it. I used a Trey Ratcliff preset called Amazing Raisins in Lightroom. It really got me close to where I needed to be. From there it was just a couple of minor tweaks before sending it to SmugMug.
