Throwing It Down

Photo of the Day

I took this photo on the first of January in 2010 as Purdue was playing West Virginia. Purdue came into the game ranked #4 in the country while West Virginia came in ranked #6. This was a game with a lot of hype, and Purdue really seemed to be in control the entire time. They won 77-62, but the game was much worse than the final score shows. I have always liked this picture of Jajuan Johnson just after a slam dunk. From my seat back then I usually got a great shot of the dunk, but with the players face blocked by the rim. Here I was lucky enough to capture Jajuan’s face just after the slam. Johnson had 25 points and 10 rebounds, and was clearly the star of the game. Purdue was on a roll, and ready to make a move in the NCAA Tournament. That was before the injury to Robbie Hummel slowed them down. It did set up a set of circumstances that led to one of my favorite sport shots. More on that one on a future post though.

Technical Data

This was another shot that was edited in Lightroom with the light sports preset. For most of my sports shots this is a great starting point. From there I can edit it to taste, but I love how it starts me out. Other than that though and a couple of tweaks that was it here. The framing was all me with the camera.
