Photo of the Day
Today Purdue starts the new year by playing in a bowl game. They will be playing in the Heart of Dallas bowl against Oklahoma State. I don’t know what the final score will be, but I do know that the fans attending the game should be having a good time. I couldn’t help but think of my first bowl game in 2006. The picture above is from that game as Purdue was playing future Big Ten school Maryland in the Champs Sports Bowl in Orlando. The game did not go Purdue’s way at all, but I still had a great time. I had spent the morning walking in the footsteps of the astronauts at Cape Canaveral, and the game seemed very unimportant by the time I got there. This picture has always been a favorite of mine even though the action is far away. I like the fact that you can see many familiar things all in the same shot. One of my favorite photographers Tom Campbell is in the end zone shooting here. You can see the big drum along with some of the winning floats from the Citrus Parade. That is all a backdrop to the players and the big scoreboard that right away lets you know where you are. I thought that with the bowl game today that this would be a good way to start the year off.
Technical Data
Not much to say here. The first is that I shot this with all of my old gear. My Canon Rebel XT with the 70-300mm lens on it. That does not lead to good shots at night. This one turned out okay though. I was still feeling that camera out at the time, but I feel that I did a good job here. To add some punch I ran the shot through Lightroom and the light sports preset. I adjusted the highlights, shadows, and the blacks before performing a small crop. After that it was an export to here to post the picture.
Best of 2012
On Flickr I have assembled 20 pictures that I really liked from this past year. They might not be the favorites of most, but they all mean something to me. Of course I didn’t put pictures up that were too personal, but enough to get a small glimpse of my year. Here is a link to that Flickr album.
