Day 339 Bonus: Strike Up The Band

Bonus Photo of the Day

Yesterday I attended the Purdue and Notre Dame game in South Bend. We went to the game without any tickets because a lot of the fun there can be had without any. While touring the campus though we ended up getting some nice seats below face value. It was actually in this spot as we were watching the Notre Dame band play. I thought that this would make a good picture. The drum major would make this gesture just before the start of a song. Of course the one time I was ready for it he didn’t do it. I had to wait for the second to last song to get this shot. I really liked how it turned out. More of my pictures from campus will probably find their way to this site when the photo a day journey is over. For now though I thought I would post a second one from yesterday. More of my in game shots can be found on my sports blog here.

Technical Data

I was shooting this with a bit wider scope in mind. At some point though I decided to get the new 70-200mm lens out to blur the band, and make the drum major the focus. I like how the shot turned out this way, and I think that it speaks volumes about how far that I have come that I even thought about this shot. I did bring the shot into Lightroom to add a little clarity and perform a small crop.

Kelby Worldwide Photowalk

Here is that part of the post where I talk about the photowalk that I am leading on campus after the Wisconsin game in October. The date is October 13th to be exact, and the walk will start at 4 o’clock est at the Neil Armstrong Statue in front of the Armstrong Hall of Engineering. Nearly 1,000 photowalks are planned around the world. If you are not near West Lafayette then you kind find a walk near you on the Kelby site. Sign up now to be part of this event. Nearly 15,000 walkers have already signed up so far. Activity has picked up a bit on the Purdue sites even with the short time being posted. You don’t have to be a pro (I am far from it) to attend. Any kind of camera is welcome as well. Here are a few links to the various sites which promote the event. If you want to sign up you should do so on the Kelby site in order to be eligible for the prizes though.
