Day 285: A Little Sappy

Photo of the Day

Today I was in the process of moving after work, and really did not get out to get the picture that I wanted. In fact it was about 8:30 when I first thought of it. I was scrambling to think of an idea for a picture when I remembered the sap on the tree out front. Last week I took a picture of the exoskeleton on the same tree, and knew that I had this in reserve for another day. Today was that day. I like a couple of things about this picture. The first is the bokeh in the background. I don’t have fast enough lenses to get it most of the time, but I like the effect. The second portion that I like is the sap itself. Maybe I am crazy, but I see a bird in the sap. Clearly there is a head turned to the side with the wings pointed down. Maybe I have just overexerted myself today.

Technical Data

Yet again this shot was edited entirely in Lightroom. A small crop along with exposure and contrast corrections, and the image was saved to my 365 folder. Not a lot going on here yet again. I used bracketed exposures once again because time was not on my side. I took this bracketing with the +1, 0, and -1 exposures selected. I thought that one of these had to be the one. In the end I used the metered image getting rid of the under and overexposed images.

Other News

This was shot with my 50mm lens. I enjoy using it, but thought that I would point out a cool project that just completed over at My Days In Focus. He took a photo a day with his 50mm lens for fifty days. He called the project 50 @ 50. A link to the final post can be found here. It was a cool project that I don’t know if I could finish. Anyway check it out.
