Day 246: A Field Full of Hudson’s

Photo of the day

Today I was headed to a spot where I had a barn shot in mind. I have featured that barn on this blog before, but it had a little different look to it this week. I started to turn onto the road the barn was on when I saw two cars sitting on a grass runway. With the background of the beautiful sky I knew that my shot was somewhere there. The cars were both Hudson’s probably around 1950 give or take a couple of years from what I could tell. I used the wide angle lens to get a sweeping shot, and it also allowed me to get a little closer than I normally could get. This picture has a bit more post processing than normal. I ran three shots through Photomatix. They were the -2, 0, and +2 exposures. I took that result along with the -2 exposure into Photoshop to work with it a little. I replaced the sky with the -2 exposure by masking it in. I liked the more natural looking sky much better, and I still think that it looks good. Something was still off. The grass was way too electric green for my taste. I then used something else that I learned in the 11 hour HDR tutorial by Trey Ratcliff. To make the grass a little less green you turn down the yellow hue. It sounds weird, but it works. After that the shot was ready to post.

Thank You

Last month was by far the best month so far for this site. It actually is quite humbling to see how many people follow this blog daily. Some names I know because of the frequent comments and/or likes. Some I have yet to get to know. This is quite an adventure taking at least one picture a day. At one point during the month I didn’t think I had a shot at beating April’s record. I somehow did though and then some. The added visibility makes me try that much harder to find something interesting to shoot everyday. I will be in Indy for a wedding the next couple of days so hopefully I can get a couple good images. I have had good luck going down to Indy so far.
