Day 89: A Calvary Sunset

For some reason I tend to move towards the windmills at sunset. Usually I end up where I did tonight well after sunset. The other night I drove by just before the sun set, but the snow was coming down too hard to get a decent picture. Tonight I happened upon the spot just before the sky lit up. In fact I was able to get a great picture of a barn I have been trying to get with the golden light on it and the windmill behind it. Tonight was not about barns though. I was intent on capturing this sunset. Part of what makes it so fun is how quickly things change. As I was taking these pictures I was thinking about how I usually try and frame my pictures with three of the windmills in view. As I looked through the viewfinder I thought about the three crosses on Calvary. I don’t think this is intentional, but it does add something to the pictures. If I cropped and just had the middle windmill with the farm it could have looked good. For some reason I like how the three looks. In this picture you can also see the plane that flew through my frame as I was shooting. I thought that it was cool how the stream it left behind was white until it passed through the cloud, and then turned to a black. It is nice to actually go out and take a picture without taking six for HDR or running it through post processing. A couple photos that didn’t make it here can be found on Flickr at the top of my photostream.
