Seeing The Samara Joy Soundcheck
When the Purdue football game was moved to an 8:00 game it meant that I could no longer photograph the Samara Joy concert that was happening at the same time. I really thought that this could be a cool event, and I was sad that I wouldn’t get to see it. As luck would have it they had a special soundcheck performance for McCutcheon and they needed someone to document it. I was able to hear a few songs and then hear a Q&A session with the band.
Taking Inspiration From Everywhere
Photographing inspiration can come from anywhere. Listening to these jazz artists talk about their craft was so inspiring. The improve nature of jazz is something that I could compare to what I do at a football game. You have an idea of how things are going to go, but knowing when to go with what you are being given is important. I really enjoyed the music during the sound check, but I think I learned so much from the Q&A session afterwards. I couldn’t read a note of music, but some of the concepts resonated with me. I am glad that I was able to listen in to this.
